ANAK TV CONCLUDES WORKSHOPS FOR THE PHILIPPINES’ YOUNG VIDEO MAKERS

Anak TV successfully conducted a series of video workshops for children aimed at empowering them to express themselves creatively through video making. 

The workshops on visual storytelling ran for four weekends at the Arzobispado de Manila in Intramuros.

Director Nico Hernandez of ABS CBN conducted lessons on creating a story, effective camera angles and composition, perspective, and basic post-production skills for editing and music scoring tasks.

Head facilitator Danie Cruz, also of ABS CBN, guided the participants in all aspects of production and their adherence to the festival’s theme of “Friendship In Diversity.”

Through these workshops, Anak TV aimed to generate worthy entries to the children’s category for the Sinebata Video Festival, a national video competition for both professionals and non-professionals, including children, in the Philippines. The winners in Sinebata will be the official entries of the country to the 4th Southeast Asia Video Festival for Children to be held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in November this year.

Four batches of children were sent by various schools to participate in the workshops. In each workshop, the children were required to produce their videos and present them to their respective panel of production experts for evaluation. 

Each team was composed of five participants who chose their director, cinematographer, writer, and actors. As a team, they created their story, did their storyboarding, decided on their shooting venues, and implemented their plans for production according to the allotted time for shooting and editing.

The first batch of participants came from San Beda University and St. Joseph School of San Jose, Nueva Ecija. On their graduation day, Krayola, produced by San Beda, was applauded as Best Picture. It also won the Best Poster Award.

       Batch 1 Anak TV video workshop

The second batch of participants were from St. John Bosco College of Tayabas, Manuel Araullo High School of Manila, St. John the Baptist Catholic School of Calumpit , Bulacan and Martin De Porres Catholic School of Paombong, Bulacan.

At the end of the workshops, one winner in each of the junior and senior categories were chosen. For the junior category, True Friends, produced by the Saint Martin de Porres Catholic School of Paombong, Bulacan emerged as winner, while Kisapmata by the St. John Bosco College of Tayabas won in the senior category.

       Batch 2 Anak TV video workshop

Batch 3 consisted of students from the Sacred Heart School,  Ateneo de Cebu, Father Saturnino Urios University of Butuan City, and Immaculate Concepcion Archdiocesan School De Calarian of Zamboanga City.  In this batch, the video of Immaculate Concepcion Archdiocesan School de Calarian entitled Tapik, won the most number of craft awards and the Best Picture Award.

       Batch 3 Anak TV video workshop

Students from Colegio de la Purisima of Capiz, Iloilo City National high School, and Mangyan Education Center, Inc. of Oriental Mindoro composed the participants of Batch 4. This workshop culminated in the presentation of awards to the following outstanding videos: Inabay, produced by the Mangyan Education Center, Inc. which emerged as Best Picture in the senior category and Friends Beyond Disability, produced by the Iloilo City National High School won as Best Picture in the junior category.

Pleased with the performance of all the teams, the workshop organizers expanded the list of winners to include the Best Actor and Best Actress Awards.

Declared winners for their outstanding performances were Myco Aeron E. Cias, in the video Mag-igsukul by the Iloilo City National High School, who tied with Josh Henrix Locsin in the same video entry as Best Actor. It was also a tie for the Best Actress Award:  Stella Angeline L. Mendoza in the video Bulig, produced by Colegio de la Purisima, and Elcana Joy A. Rag-op of Inabay, produced by the Mangyan Education Center, Inc.

Inabay also won the Heart Award for touching the hearts of everyone in the workshop, including the participants, mentors, parents, teachers and the Anak TV secretariat.

      Batch 4 Anak TV video workshop

Anak TV president Elvira Go said “We may have had to wrestle with difficulties and challenges in the conduct of the video workshops, but it was all worth it, considering the invaluable lessons learned by the children as Anak TV sent them off the wonderful road to filmmaking.” 

Ms Go said that she was “confident that Anak TV had imbued the hearts and minds of the young directors and producers with encouragement, inspiring them to dream, create and become instruments of change, peace, and love through their imaginative videos for children and the rest of us.”
