Kalibo, Aklan, Philippines — August 29, 2026. Anak TV, the advocacy organization composed of all major Philippine television networks, held its 2026 Media Literacy Symposium at Aklan Catholic College (ACC) in Kalibo, Aklan, gathering students, teachers, and parents for a day-long program on responsible and safe media consumption. The event forms part of Anak TV’s nationwide symposium series leading up to the 2026 Anak TV Awards, and marked the organization’s stop in the province of Aklan.

Anak TV President Elvira Yap Go and Anak TV Vice President and ABS-CBN Corporate Communications Head Kane Errol Choa led the 2026 Media Literacy Symposium at Aklan Catholic College on August 29, 2026. The plenary session, titled “Reducing Toxicity in the World of Social Media,” tackled online hate, cyberbullying, and digital kindness. The symposium also featured a performance by Anak TV Ambassador and Sparkle GMA Artist Center talent Lee Victor, who serenaded students and guests, along with open forums, video screenings, and interactive games with ACC’s students.

Elvira Yap Go: “Being the Light” for Filipino Families

Anak TV President Elvira Yap Go opened the program by reminding the ACC community of the vital role parents play in guiding children’s media habits in today’s digital landscape. Consistent with her message at other legs of the 2026 symposium series, Yap Go emphasized that whatever a family’s situation, parents remain the ones who must light the way for their children’s responsible and discerning media consumption.

She engaged directly with teachers and parents in the audience during an open forum, fielding questions on how households can better monitor and guide the media diets of children and teenagers.

The symposium’s plenary session was delivered by Kane Errol Choa, Anak TV Vice President and ABS-CBN Corporate Communications Head. His presentation, titled “Reducing Toxicity in the World of Social Media,” walked students and teachers through real case studies on online hate and cyberbullying, and offered practical, age-appropriate strategies for recognizing and coping with toxic behavior on social media platforms.

Choa closed his talk with a message aimed squarely at ACC’s young audience:

“In a world where you can be anything, be kind.”

The line, projected on screen as his final thought, became the plenary’s central takeaway — a simple, memorable call for digital kindness that organizers hope students will carry into their everyday online interactions.

The symposium wasn’t all lectures. Anak TV Ambassador and Sparkle GMA Artist Center talent Lee Victor serenaded the ACC crowd, adding a lighter, celebratory touch to the day’s advocacy work. Lee also led interactive segments with grade school and junior high students, drawing laughter and participation from ACC’s younger attendees during game and mixer activities held around the campus grounds.

Inside ACC classrooms, students also viewed clips from Anak TV Seal–awarded programs as part of the media literacy curriculum, reinforcing the symposium’s message about the kind of content that meets the organization’s family-friendly standards.

Why Media Literacy Symposiums Matter for Philippine Schools

Anak TV’s school-based symposiums address a growing concern among Filipino educators and parents: how to help children navigate an entertainment landscape that now spans broadcast television, streaming, and social media simultaneously. By pairing plenary talks — like Choa’s session on reducing online toxicity — with student-friendly activities and program screenings, Anak TV aims to make media literacy concrete and relatable rather than abstract, especially for schools like Aklan Catholic College that serve students from grade school through senior high school.
